Visitors to Disney’s iconic theme parks will feel less weight in their wallets these days, thanks to the newly announced price hikes at both Walt Disney World and Disneyland Resort. But in a whimsical twist only the House of Mouse could conceive, Disney has decided to commemorate this financial milestone with the debut of a brand new character: Greedy, the long-lost eighth dwarf.
Sources inside the company said that the introduction of Greedy is part of Disney’s ongoing commitment to providing “authentic and memorable experiences” for its guests. “When we thought about how to best represent the essence of this price increase, Greedy just felt like the right fit,” said Michael Goldgrab, Vice President of Character Development and Revenue Strategy. “He’s been out chasing riches while his fellow dwarfs were busy mining diamonds. It’s about time he joined the family.”
Greedy, distinguishable by his ever-bulging pockets and a twinkle in his eye that is suspiciously dollar-sign-shaped, will be greeting guests as they enter the theme parks. Early reports indicate that guests can take a photo with Greedy or receive an autograph for just a small additional fee.
Annual pass holders, meanwhile, have had mixed reactions to the price increase and the new character introduction. “Honestly, I wasn’t too thrilled about the price hike at first,” said Melissa Carter, a ten-year pass holder, “But then I saw Greedy pickpocket Goofy and I thought, ‘This is the kind of authentic Disney experience I’m here for.’”
In a delightful twist that promises to further immerse visitors into the world of Greedy, both the Seven Dwarfs Mine Train at Walt Disney World and Snow White’s Enchanted Wish at Disneyland will feature a new show element: Greedy’s Toll Booth. Guests will experience the magic of paying a “small toll fee” before continuing their adventure. This unexpected yet enchanting pit stop promises to add an extra layer of charm, encapsulating the essence of Disney’s newest dwarf in the most delightful way.
Disney hopes that Greedy’s presence will remind guests of the magic, wonder, and focus on profit that has always been part of the theme park experience. “We want everyone to remember,” Goldgrab says, “that every penny spent here brings us all closer to the dreams we hold dear. Especially if that dream helps enrich our shareholders.”
