In a stunning display of immersive theming, Disneyland’s much-anticipated Tiana’s Palace restaurant, set to open its doors in just a few short weeks, will feature a swampland design throughout its dining area. The feature promises to give diners a truly authentic bayou dining experience.
“When we accidentally broke a sewer pipe we saw an opportunity to take our story and theming to another level,” said Bob Wise, lead Imagineer of the project. “Why just let guests watch ‘The Princess and the Frog’ when they can also experience the squishy sensation of swamp ooze between their toes?”
The design was inspired when, in a rush to complete the project on time, the construction crew broke through a buried sewer pipe leading from the nearby New Orleans Square restrooms. “One of my most vivid memories of New Orleans is walking down the urine and vomit coated alleys after Mardi Gras,” said Wise. “When the fragrant smell of the sludge filled restaurant hit my nostrils, I knew that we had an authentic New Orleans experience for our guests to enjoy.”
With the authentic bayou experience in place, park guests who made early reservations are being encouraged to dress appropriately. “Bring your waders, frog-catching nets, and a great attitude,” advised a Guest Relations representative.
The menu, while still boasting the promised Crescent City cuisine, has been updated to celebrate the new swampland theme. Guests can enjoy desserts such as “Mud Pie Surprise” where you can guess if it’s made from chocolate or mud. Additionally, diners will be treated to impromptu meet and greets by real-life swamp creatures such as snakes, sewer rats, and the occasional alligator.
Disneyland officials are confident that Tiana’s Palace will offer a genuinely immersive experience, emphasizing the rare opportunity to dine with nature.
